TAKUTAN SA ARAW NG MGA PUSO 2017

Takutan sa Araw ng mga Puso tests the student's ability to do production design; cinematography (lighting and camerawork); make-up; costume; and to write in a manner by which audience's response is anticipated. Horror films are difficult to make and to undergo production for this genre has proven to be good training for students. Here their creative maturity can be tested as this is the first major film they will be producing after the many film challenges (activities the whole term). They are challenged to create moods, atmosphere, etc.

Horror films depends on the interpretation of students. Horror can be based on a folklore or something psychological. It can be about the supernatural or it can deal with the inner horrors of life. The style and approach by which a script is done is all up to the students and challenges them to explore the meanings of horror.

Students are allowed to group themselves up to six members for the midterms but each must be assigned a specific production task. Directors are all volunteers and they are responsible for the selection of their members.

Ideas, concepts and the actual films are not to be censored by anyone including the instructors to allow students to freely express their stories and ideas. Should there be adult-themed films, we practice social responsibility by not allowing anyone below 18 years of age to watch in the screenings. Otherwise, everyone is invited to watch the screenings scheduled every February 14.

The films shall be judged on originality; how engaging story and its narrative can get; believability of actors; quality and aptness of production design; good lighting, camera angles and camera movement (cinematography); excellence in editing; proper use of sound and music; proper make-up; good use of special effects; and, style and direction (mood, atmosphere, etc). The film is assigned 200 points. The first 100 is the score of the film as a whole. The second 100 shall be the individual score of the students for their roles in the film (as cinematographer, writer, production designer, etc.) Students who are absent during the screening and presentation of works gets a 50 point deduction from his/her midterm film score. As filmmakers they should present their films to the audience.
